Can anyone recommend me a fair priced good antenna for my uv-5r+
Can't really receive much on the "rubber duck" it came with.
Thank you.

That's a question, it reminds me of the saying "there's good, cheap and quick, pick any two". I've tried and tested lot (a dozen or more) of aftermarket aerials and tbh most are pants. Nagoya? Forget them, none are tuned properly, way off usually and mostly very poor copies. Diamond are the best, the proper Japanese ones but most for sale are again cheap copies unless you want to pay £20-£25 for the genuine ones. My choice would be Retech, made in Taiwan (I've got several), IF you can find them.
It's a case of 'you get what you pay for' I'm afraid. Most supplied aerials aren't that bad tbh, though the longer the better. Having said that, I could get into our local repeater 11 miles away on Retech and Diamond 'stubbies' on 2W from indoors, but not even full size Nagoya's could manage that. If you're using it from home get a white stick, that's your best bet.

Hi chap, I've tried a few Nagoya NA-771 antenna's on my UV-5r, and they're only any good if they're genuine. Fakes have flooded the market, to the point where even the Baofeng UK website is selling fakes (I bought some). As such, the only reliable source for them I've found is Knights Radio.... I bought 4 from them and they're all the genuine item. I've compared the NA-771 with my Nagoya UT-72 magmount on the car, and they're actually pretty good. There is also the Retevis RHD771 which is supposed to be good for the UV-5r, but I think there's a problem with fakes everywhere again.
Cheers
Simon.

If I get screwed over and get a fake one? Will it still be better than the "rubber Duck??
Your the first to warn me about fakes as found a 771 for £3.50 on eBay ....
8 people have now told me to go with a 771 so may try to find a real one.

Absolutely not bud, so you will need to go to Knights Radio or somewhere similar in order to get a genuine one, as most of the 'online only' sellers are flogging Chinese fakes, which are proper crap.
....Oh, and one other thing to bear in mind is that these antennas are tuned to 144/430Mhz, but will do very well up to the PMR446Mhz band. The UV-5r also receives 220Mhz, but this band is not in use in the UK, so there will be nothing on it anyway.
Let us know how you get on!
Cheers
Simon.

I did have 2 or 3 new 771 genuine ones at that. Will look for them later. Bought a job lot some time ago from a closed down shop.

Just had a look and they are not the 771 they are NA-701 dual band 2m/70cm. I have 4 of the genuine thing and 12 fakes lol. Never tried any but might dig out my Baofeng to see how they compare.

Yep, kcb.co.uk is the one. You'll need the SMA female connector to go onto the UV-5r.
