Hi all.
Is there a new book that gives all the relavent info I will need to get started on Foundation? I had a book a couple of years back that was given to me while the kids were small, alas had no time to take it any further, Now the kiddies are more off-hand and the sylabus is about to change I feel the need to study.

New Manual on that page. £4.99 if you are not a member of the RSGB. Hope that helps.

Thanks MarcFX. That will be with me by the weekend.
I see you have a Grant II as well. Nice radio and I hooked an Astatic power mike to it and use a Sirio Gainmaster at 1.5 metres above a metal garage roof. Seem to get out OK.
Anyway,, Thank you for the info. The work begins.

Si,
You're welcome. Not as much of a challenge as you may think if you already know the basics. My opinion.

There was some panic about the new syllabus but it’s still the case that if you’ve used radio for a few years, the Foundation shouldn’t be a problem. You just have to learn the licence conditions. I sympathise with the trainers and clubs for whom the change is a nuisance.

Good luck on the studies gents. General rule of thumb. Always go for the safety option on a question in the foundation exam. Regards

I have see a post on face book of a vote been taken, to see if they can get enough to ban the foundation exam and remove all foundation licence holders as we are a embarrassment to the ham radio hobby, I got in touch wit the RSGB and told them about this vote that's going on by this top ham and explained, that there is allot of foundation holders that had to do new parts to he exam that will feel let down including my self and I would fight them in court to stop the removal of the foundation licence, I sent it by email and got a reply , we can not control what is put on face book, but they will support all foundation holder and that includes all that have just past, there will be no removal of the foundation from the amateur radio hobby, so these that are doing this and if it was seen on face book take no notice of this vote and if you are taken your test do not be put off, its some bigotry ham that hates every one below him, and as the foundation holders been a embarrassment yes we have a few rotten apples , but so do them at the top .

Thanks for that Stephen, I belong to the same Amateur radio society as Alan Betts the head of training for the RSGB and author of the study books. I haven't heard anything along those lines from him so as you have been informed nothing to worry about!!

Someone has got a petition up, but they haven't said who they are going to present it to - the only body which can stop the FL is the Government, through the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and OFCOM. Nothing is going to come of this.
A petition to stop this nonsense of 1+2 calls being issued, now that is one I would sign!

Most people, myself included, took the foundation exam to be able to advance on to the intermediate and full licence. I know I certainly speak for the five of us who sat ours and passed with flying colours on 1 December.
I certainly do not know who this individual is, nor do I believe his views are shared by much of the HAM community as I know a good number of guys who have held their full licences since the 70’s and have been nothing less than supportive of me and my friends when studying for ours. Indeed in fact, they have been truly inspirational and one would hope the ‘true reflection’ of HAMs overall.
I therefore wonder just how much support this individual has managed to gain, has he actually received enough signatures to indeed lobby parliament? Forgive me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t that be something like 10,000 signatures minimum requirement? If he has, from whom? Friends and family? I wonder, as I seriously don’t think his views are that well shared.
Best regards

Don't forget the banker questions - the questions where the answers are provided on the information sheet you're given with the exam paper with the formulas and band plan on. Nobody should be getting those questions wrong as the answer is on the sheet.

Assuming I've not misunderstood what you meant....Bit of a kick in the nuts to us contesters if that happens. Slows down the QSO rate no end having to whack out M0GVZ instead of M0Z which I used to also have for contesting.

Think its the reissue of G? or M5 with only two letter suffix rather than contest calls tc26 means ? Most funny thing at the moment is the walkie talkie ( fourth licence idea ).

The organiser of the petition has used one of the generic petition websites rather than set up a proper Parliamentary petition (which as you say needs 10k signatures before it even gets a government response - the trigger for a Parliamentary debate is 100k except in exceptional circumstances) so there is no danger of this turning up in Parliament. It's a dead duck.

I don't object to contest specials, but OFCOM have started reallocating two-letter calls to new full licence holders. Enough 3-letter call holders have already complained via RSGB that I expect this will stop. There are plenty of vacant, unissued 3 letter calls if people want vanity callsigns.

I see on qrz someone registering with an M#0 ** callsign which was issued on the 20th December 2019 , Ofcom seem to have opened it up for a free for all as regards callsigns.

I ordered all 3 course books from the RSGB a week before Xmas and they arrived today. I did get an email saying there would be a delay over Xmas so hopefully yours will be with you soon.

In case anyone is not aware, there are some errors and omissions in the first publication of the 2019 Foundation course manual.

The edition they've just sent me is the reprint with the corrections actually in place. But worth checking if your copy doesn't say "reprinted 2019" on page ii.

Good news! Glad they sorted that out, was a bit of a pain for me.
I'm just waiting for verification of my exam result from the RSGB so I can go get the coveted call-sign
