I was pleased to finally get across the pond on 10 Metres SSB yesterday to K3MD, in Winfield, PA, yesterday afternoon with just the 2 watts from my Albrecht 2990 handheld and a T2LT vertical.
The distance between us was 3418 miles.
Next challenge for the 2990 is to do the same but with just the telescopic whip attached, as the best distance I’ve managed so far is Italy. G0DNV, Barnstaple.
So many joke posts and videos around the net yesterday being Apr 1st, I wondered if this was real... But I take it that it was, and so very well done! 2 watts into the US from UK is awesome!

Stick with it Jimmy mate, we haven't even had any great conditions yet. (Unless you got a beam and a few watts up your sleeve. )
I 'popped' my homebrew ATU when I cranked up to 25W yesterday so have had to handwire it fixed for 10m operation for now. As Alan says there's a certain thrill when gaining QRP contacts and when the propagation comes in you'll be banging in countries that others probably already have so start catching up.
So long as you're having fun, that's what it's all about.

Jimmy, really impressed with the contacts you've made so far. For 10m, just like 11, ignore solar and weather forecasts and just put some calls out. I'll bet you'll be surprised more than once with what's floating around out there even if the band appears dead at first. Often predictions say 'fair' or 'poor' but there's always paths open to somewhere on the band.
Take it you heard / saw me on FT4/8 and not SSB? If you heard me on SSB on 10m then I've missed a bit of inter-G. Do call me if you hear me, we both need an England QSO in the log for the challenge If you did hear me on SSB and it was a Russian one then I hope you didn't laugh at my pigeon Russian, I try, but I've learned most from Raisa videos and don't know much more...
For non-challenge 10m contacts, I had my first, or at least my first QRZ confirmed contact with Bolivia the other day CP6UA 10W, FT8.

Well Jimmy your post certainly made me laugh , and most of the conditions are experienced here in the Yorkshire dales lol , am really lucky to have almost zero noise floor on 10m , along with being 500 ft asl with a great take off in most direction , having the tri band yagi certainly helps on the long DX but am sure once the sporadic E season starts it will be a much more level playing field with regards to yagi V vertical , fear not I’ve a 5/8 wave vertical too lol

My first Mongolian contact ITL this lunchtime, JT1CO. 9W, FT8. Sadly not an SSB one for the 10m challenge, but as we both gave each other +dB RSTs there is hope an SSB QSO could happen some day.

Yes, genuine post Neal!! I've been trying for ages with the 2990, obviously the contest helped as plenty of stations about to try for, but still chuffed to make the trip…

Been out at a dog show again today so not a lot of radio time. For the main part when I did get on the radio 10m seemed dominated with a Brazil only contest. You did well to work another south American country in the midst of all that.
