On the 4th of September, it will be the 8th Birthday of the South Coast/Monday Night Net.
If can hear us, call in and get your name in the anniversary log.
Welcome ladies and gentleman
Here is another episode of Ray reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net
or
"How many times have you been portable and you get asked "have you spoken to ET?"
The net was held on Bank holiday Monday the 28th of September 2023 and my location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex (JO-bb-01)
The weather in radio corner was still and warm and stayed at a pleasant temperature all night allowing us to see the sun set and moon rise.
My working conditions were the CRT Space U and antenna A & antenna B all powered by a couple of car batteries 🪫
The net can be found on analogue channel 14 with the radio set on NFM, we don't use any CTCSS tones or DCS codes making it open to all (you don't have to have a YF, CT, DDB, FB, TC, AMC etc callsign or handle, just call in and say hello).
I arrived early with the intentions of doing some more antenna testing, but got interrupted by a couple of guys who's curiosity got the better of them and came over to ask what was going on.
Here is my list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.
CT 3466--Radar Ray--Ashdown Forest --East Sussex CT 1033--Chris--Tonbridge--Kent CT 1829--Dean--Edenbridge--Kent CT 2072--Steve T--Wrotham Hill--Kent Peter--Tonbridge--Kent CT 2207--Neil--Crowborough--East Sussex CT 4515--John--Ditchling Beacon--East Sussex TK 08--George--Tonbridge--Kent TC 156--Steve--Crawley--West Sussex D 31--Adam--Hastings--East Sussex CT 9484--Mark--Haslemere--Surrey KP 441--Steve--Partridge Green--West Sussex--Working a handy CT 4362--Chris--Reigate Town--Surrey DDB 285--Steve aka Joker--Reigate Hill--Surrey CT 4016--Andy aka Bartman--Reigate Hill--Surrey AL 1--Allan--Redhill--Surrey--working a handy in his garden CT 4013--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex FB 298--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex GE 12--Tim--Hastings--East Sussex Jake--North Chailey--East Sussex and me CT 2290--Ray--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex--in the chair with a pen and paper
Thank you all who called in, a special mention to the listening stations, you know who you are and sorry if you tried to get in, please try again another time if you wasn't heard.
Here are a couple of topics of conversation on the night, seeing a Starlink train go across the sky and why do we still call it a 'Bank holiday' when most high street banks are now closed?
The results of my 'real world', 'in the field', 'non scientific' antenna test are in. Antenna A was a Comet dual band antenna on a mag mount and antenna B was my 1/4 wave up on a pole. The Comet out preformed the 1/4 wave over 90% of the time, with most stations say that the audio and signal strength was up. So do I go out and buy a Comet antenna, upgrade my 1/4 wave to a 1/2 or even a 5/8 wave or do I convert a 7900D dual band antenna to a portable antenna that can go up on a pole with ground plans?
That rounds up this episode of Ray reviews the net.

Hello all
Welcome to the 8th anniversary of the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net.
Here is another episode of Ray reviews. . . .
or
" HAPPY BIRTYDAY TO US, 8 YEARS YOUNG "
The net was held on Monday 4th of September 2023 and my location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex or, as some know it, Winne Pooh land.
The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock UK time, but it is worth calling out early as sometimes there is a pre-net chat
The net is on channel 14, is open to all, you don't have to have a callsign or handle and we don't use CTCSS or DCS codes.
The weather was like a proper British summer and I don't mean rain. We had blue skies, saw the sunset, the stars came out and we saw the moon rise. The temperature stayed mild all night until I pulled the plug early Tuesday morning.
My working conditions was the CRT Space U, powered by a couple of car batteries , pushing about 10 watts or less up some Mini RG 8 coax to a unknown French PMR antenna

The net was held on Monday 11th of September 2023 on the usual analogue channel 14 and started at 20:00 hrs UK time, 19:00 hrs UTC or 15:00 hrs in London, Canada.
My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex were the weather was clear, bright with some high wispy cloud and a breeze.
The set up was the QYT KT-8900D powered by a car battery and the French PMR antenna up on a pole.
Here is the list of stations that called in and were worked.

With so many people calling in there wasn't much conversation, but there was some 11m testing of Radar Ray's new Thunderpole TX handheld and seeing a shooting star.
Well that about wraps up this episode, see you next time

"Glad I'm not wearing a kilt!"
The net was held on Monday the 18-09-2023 and could be found on all good PMR or opened up capable ham radio's on channel 14 or 446.16875 MHz using the Narrow FM set, but, not using any kind of CTCSS, DCS tones.
My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forestin the county of East Sussex and the set up was the QYT KT-8900D, powered by a car batteryand the French PMR mobile antenna on a pole, but not so high up as last week due to the windy conditions.
The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock UK time, 19:00 UTC or Stardate 47634.44 (so the Star Trek online game suggests). But if you do listen in before then, you may hear and be able to join in the pre-net warm up chat.
The weather, as alluded to earlier, was cold, windy with a clear sky and a temperature drop of 6 degrees from the start to the finish of the net
Here is the list of stations heard and or worked by the net, and just for a giggle, I'm going to start at the bottom of the list and work my way to the top.

Part one
Hello all and welcome
I'm sure you know by now, that I was unable to host the South Coast/Monday PMR on 25-09-2023 This was due to the earth (black) wire corroding inside the connector bolted to the bottom of the gearbox.
So John CT 4515 jumped in and had a good go at chairing the net, he then passed on to me the job of writing the review of the log. So without further ado, here is another episode of Ray reviews the South Coast/Monday night PMR net
or
"very funny Ray "
The net was held on Monday 25th of September 2023 and is located on analogue channel 14, using the NFM setting on the radio and NOT using any kind of CTCSS tones etc. The fun begins at 20:00 BST or 19:00 UTC , but sometimes if you listen in before then, you could join the the pre-net warm up/ragchew.
John's location for the night was Ditchling Beacon were he had Tony CT 4013 riding shot gun.
Now on with the reviewing the log. Remember all stations are 26 divisions unless otherwise stated.
The log is on a piece of paper measuring roughly 20 x 12cm, there a line of torn perforations at the top, some fold lines across it and writing in black ink on it, most of the writing makes sense, there is a question mark against one entry and a callsign that looks like the word TESCO.
I would give a solid 8 1/2 out of 10 for a first attempt and to be honest it is a hell of a lot neater than my logs!
That concludes my review of John's log.
Sorry mate I just couldn't help myself

Thank you all who called in and if you tried and wasn't heard, please try again another Monday night.

Here is another episode of Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR net held on the 09-10-23

"Can it get any better?"
After arriving a bit late to Ashdown Forest (but not in Radio Corner), I hurriedly set up my 8 element beam and QYT KT-8900D, which was powered by 12 volt car battery , ready for what the night might bring. But before I get into that, a bit about the net. The net is scheduled to start at 20:00 BST or, until the clocks go back, 19:00 UTC and can be found on analogue channel 14 (446.16875 MHz) using the NFM setting and no CTCSS codes. It can be worth tuning in before 20:00 as some people do get on early and have a pre-net ragchew.
Also, you don't need a callsign or handle to join in, you can just call in as Dickie from Billericay
Before I move on to the list of stations that called in, the weather was still and mild.
Now for the important list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

Dug out my handheld last night and listened in the vain hope that I might hear someone calling out. Did call out myself a couple of times but know it would be a rare trick to hear a station in the rural area that I live in. Really need to look to do something different especially antenna wise if I am to be serious about it. Just had to give a go though as you just never know....... 73's Wally

Hello all and welcome
Here is another episode of Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR, held on 16th of October in the year 2023
or
"your not a proper Hill Topper unless your there all year round"
The net can be found on analogue channel 14, were we don't use any kind of tones or codes, making it accessible to all and is scheduled to start at about 20:00 BST or 19:00 UTC. Some times if you listen in before the start, you may hear the pre-net warm up rag chew, if you do, why not call in and say hello, and don't worry if you haven't got a callsign, you could use your old CB handle or just calling as with your name and location.
My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest (JO-01-bb-14-kk) in the county of East Sussex, and the set up for the night was the, bought from France new old stock PMR antenna and the QYT KT-8900D pushing about 0.2 watts x 100 powered by a 12 volt car battery
The weather was cold with a gentle breeze and an outside temperature of about 10 degrees C which dropped down to 8 degrees but then started to rise at the end of the net.

Hello all and welcome
Yes I back after my week of face to face rag chew with the many at Radio Corner.
So without further ado, here is another episode of Ray Reviews The South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net
or
"boasting your the biggest doesn't make you the best"
The was held on Monday 30th of October 2023 and could have been found on analogue channel 14, no tones, no codes, you don't even have to have a callsign or handle, just call in and introduce yourself
My set up was a 12 volt car battery powered QYT KT-8900D and the £1 mag mount. This allowed me to test RX & TX in 4 different car parks on Ashdown Forest.
The net is scheduled to start at 20:00 hrs , 8 o'clock pm or 20:00 UTC but sometimes you will find people on having a pre-net chat, so why not break in and join in.
The weather on the night was changeable. It started cold and cloudy with the odd break in the cloud revelling a 3/4 moon , then some drizzle followed by fog.
Now on with the list of who called in and who was heard and or worked by the net.

As always, thank you all who took time to call in and join in for a couple of hours on a Monday night. A special mention to the listening stations (you know who you area). Sorry if you tried to call in and wasn't heard, please don't give up, give it a go another Monday night.
Now for the results of testing 4 different car parks. Each 1 has it's pro's and con's , some were good in 1 direction but the other.
So the conclusion is. . . . . .
. . . . Radio Corner is the best place to put a mobile dual band antenna up on a 9m pole or use a beam.
That brings this episode to an end, thank you for reading if you got this far.

Here is another episode of Ray Reviews the Monday Night/South Coast PMR net

"the antenna's up there somewhere"
The net was held on the 4th of December 2023 and is scheduled to start at 20:00 or 8 o'clock local time, but don't wait till 8, as there is a chance that somebody will be on earlier have a pre-net worm up chat.
My location for the night was a cold, damp, foggy (or was it low cloud?) Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex (JO-01-BB) and the set up was the slightly deaf (WHAT!) QYT TH-8900D powered by a car battery and a Dean built dipole up on 20ish foot pole.
The net can be found on channel 14 using the NFM mode on the radio and no kind of CTCSS/privacy tones, making it open to all, with or without a callsign or handle.
So armed with the when, where and what time, on with the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

Hello all and welcome
Here is another Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night Net
or
you've heard of the 3 wise men and the 3 tenors,
"well this is the 3 chairman episode"
A little about the net, it can be found, not under a rock, but on analogue channel 14 or 446.16875 MHz using NFM and not using any kind of CTCSS or privacy tones. This makes it more open to all regardless of what type of radio you own.
It starts at about 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock local UK time but sometimes, if you turn on early, you will find operators on having a pre-net chat.
Talking about the operators, the net is open to all, regardless of what Facebook group, radio club or knowledge level you are and yes we even welcome those from the dark side
My location for the night was a cold, clear and then foggy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was a TYT TH-9800 and a Dean built 1/4 wave Dipole.
Here is the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

Hello and welcome
There will be no 'official' PMR net on Monday 25th of December, I will be back on January the 1st 2024
Now on with another episode of Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net
or
"The name is Quansheng UV-K58, and I can do everything but make tea and toast"
The net is held on almost every Monday night throughout the year, and can be found on analogue channel 14 (446.16875 MHz). We don't use any CTCSS or 'privacy' tones making the net open to all, even those who just love to press the PTT button so we can listen to their roger beep da beeps.
My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex where the weather was cold and windy and due the the low cloud, it seemed darker than normal, you couldn't even see the house and town lights in the distance.
My working conditions on the night was the TYT TH-9800, the Graham built 7 element beam from way back in the day and the John built rotator.
I almost forgot, the net is scheduled to start at 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock UK local time. But keep this between you and I , tune in early and you may find people on having a pre-net chat, testing new bits of kit or commenting on me being late again!!

Thank you all who called in, I wouldn't be there if you all wasn't out there. Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard, please try again another Monday night.
Between the pass arounds, the only topics of conversation were if there would be a net next week (check the beginning of the review) and the new super duper, all singing all dance Quansheng UV-K58 hand held radios.
That about bring this episode to an end.
So to all the stations past and present, all the readers of the forum and to those who leave likes and comments
