Hello all
Welcome to the new year of 2024 and to the first, of many, Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net.
or
"Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and ne'er brought to mind Should auld acquaintance be forgot, for the sake of auld lang syne"
The net was held on Monday the 1st of January 2024, and started at 20:00 hours or 8 o'clock UK local time, which at the moment is also 20:00 UTC
The South Coast/Monday Night Net can be found on analogue channel 14 and is free from any CTCSS tones and such like, so making it open to all from 1/2 watt walkie talkies to opened up Icom's and Kenwood's
My location for the night was a wet, windy, dark and rainy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and I was using the QYT TH-8900D powered by a 12 volt car batter and a fit for purpose antenna on a pole.
Here is the list of stations heard and or worked by the net.

Thank you all who came out and called in. Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard, please try again another time, you will be welcomed.
Topics of conversation ranged from guessing the 'secret' location of Richard & Pru, the rain, updating the picture of Radio Corner on Google and did I mention the rain?
Here is a little snippet video of the night
That brings this episode to an end.
Till next time

Well done with the first PMR Net of 2024 there Ray and hope that you and all that call in enjoy the rest of the year.
(Always great to see/hear a video so that others can experience what it's all about and maybe tempt them to join in.)

Hi guys, I'm new to the group and tried to join the net on Monday (8th Jan) at around 8:45-9pm. Sadly, I couldn't hear anything/anyone and called a few times. I might have been too late to the party or maybe my antenna wasn't up to the job (it's a stealth dipole stretched across a low roof ) So to improve things, I'm making a 1/4 wave and a 5/8 wave vertical to test/compare & use next Monday. Hope to catch a contact or two.

Hi Dave & welcome back to radio. For 446 UHF a vertical should work a lot better, there is also the fact that UHF does not travel the same as HF ie. doesn't bend over high ground so well. I note that Petworth to the Chairman (Ray 2290) in Ashdown Forest is about 30 miles so height & power helps a lot and you do have high ground between you which could be a problem
I note that you managed to get into the SSB Net last night so that was good, although I couldn't hear you the conditions were strange hopefully next week things will be better.
ps. Good luck with the Foundation license, that will bring you a whole new bunch of things to try.

Hello and welcome
Sit yourself round a warm fire and get ready for another episode of 'Ray Reviews' the South Coast/Monday Night Net
or
"anybody fancy an ice cream?"
The net was held on clear, cold, freezing 🥶 Monday night on the 15th of January 2024. This was the temperature at Radio Corner just as the net started.
My location was, a glittering white, crunchy underfoot, Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex. My set up was the CRT Space U, powered by a couple of flat 🪫🪫 car batteries and the 'Dean' made mobile antenna converted into a portable antenna up on a pole. The net can be found on analogue channel 14, using the NFM mode and doesn't use any kind of CTCSS/DCS tones. this makes it open to all.
Now on with the list of stations, in no particular order, heard and or worked by the net.

Thank you all who called in, it's you that make net what it is. Thank you to all the listening stations, you know who you are Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard, maybe try again another Monday night.
A special mention for KP 441 Steve. He was with us in spirit as he was unable to keep his knees from knocking and his teeth from chattering while in the garden, trying to call in
The temperature at the end of the net
That about wrap things up. Thank you reading to the end and did you spot my mistake?

Yes it has been a cold week, and it was a cold night in Radio Corner.
If you look at the 2nd picture, the bottom left on the thermometer display shows LL, this means at some point during the evening, the temperature went outside its range, which is below -4.9

Hi Dave
The time and effort is worth it. Without you and the rest of the guys and girls being out there, I would be at home in the warm
The cold, frosty, snowy, foggy, rainy, windy late nights will be a distant memory when you work France or Bristol or Norfolk on 4 watts thanks to a bit of 'Tropo'. When using the handy with no external antenna, do you connect a 'rats tail' to the ground/chassis on the radio?
1 of the best things about PMR is that you can build and experiment with an antenna for next to no cost. A simple Di-pole can be made with 2 bits of wire and connector block, a little Ground Plane antenna made out of a couple of coat hangers and a SO-239 socket even a mag mount with a 1/4 wave whip and not forgetting a small handheld 5 element beam.

Welcome welcome
Here is another episode of 'Ray Reviews' the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net, held on 22-01-2024
or
"On this date in history, the 1st commercial Boeing 747 flight took place"
The net is held on most, if not all, Monday's of the year and can be found on analogue channel 14. It does not use any kind of CTCSS or DCS tones and for less interference the radio should be set on NFM.
The net is scheduled to start at 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock UK local time, but if you are about before then, it is worth listening and calling out as some do like to have a pre-net chat and warm up. It finishes around 23:00 Hrs depending on who's on.
My location for the night was a cold and dry Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex, were I set up the CRT Space U and up on a pole was the 'Dean' made Dipole.
Due to the strong wind blowing, the clouds were zipping across the sky leaving gaps, so the 3/4 moon could shine through and various star constellations could be glimpsed

Here is another episode of 'Ray Reviews' the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net or
"on this date in history, Roy Plomley's 'Desert Island Discs' was first broadcast on BBC radio"
The net was held on Monday 29th of January 2024 and could have been found on analogue channel 14. To help stop bleed over to adjacent channels most use the NFM mode.
The net is open to all as we do not use any kind of CTCSS/DCS tones or voice scramblers, you don't even have to have a callsign or handle, your name is good enough.
My location for the night was a cool, cloudy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and my set up was the CRT Space U and the 'Dean' made dipole.
The net is scheduled to start at 8:00 pm local UK time and can finish any time from 10:30 pm onwards depending on who is on.
With the tropo conditions over the weekend being good, I was hoping that the net would catch the tail end of it, and with many voices on many channels being heard, my fingers were crossed In no particular order, on with the list of stations heard and or worked by the net

"On this date in 2024, Radio Corner saw the biggest gathering of radio operators to date!"
The net was held on the 19th of February 2024 and can be found on analogue channel 14 not using any kind of CTCSS, DCS, privacy tones making it open to all.
My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was the CRT SPACE U and the 'Dean' made French mobile antenna converted for portable use.
The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock pm or 20:00 Hrs local UK time, but if you tune in early, you may find a few on having a pre-net chat.
The weather at Radio Corner was cold, crispy with some cloud that caused a halo round the 3/4 moon
Now on with the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was the CRT Space U and the Dean made 'French' antenna up on a fibre glass pole swaying gently in the breeze.
The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock (20.00 Hrs) UK local time, but if you listen in earlier, you can sometimes be rewarded with the pre-net chat.

Yes, the pound note was changed for the coin back in 19 something or another and that coin has since been replaced by a new design as well!
Without the people coming out on the hills or calling in from home, there wouldn't be any nets for me to write about.

The new nickel brass coin was introduced on 21 April 1983 and the one pound note ceased to be legal tender on 11 March 1988.

Welcome welcome
Here is the last episode of the 'Mad March' series of Monday Night/South Coast PMR Net reviews
or
"the British parliament abolishes the slave trade throughout the British empire and introduces fines of £120 per slave to ships captains"
My location for the net was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex (JO-BB-01) and the set up was the CRT Space U, a car battery and the 'French' antenna up on a pole.
The weather was dry and cloudy, which made the full 'worm' moon a hazy blurred splodge in the sky.
The South Coast/Monday Night Net can be found on analogue channel 14 or 446.16875 MHz with no CTCSS or any kind of 'privacy' tone used.
The net is open to all, what ever your radio knowledge and you don't even need a callsign or handle just use your name.
Now if you have read this far, you maybe thinking 'I know the day and the channel, but what time does it start and finish?'. Well. The net is scheduled to start at 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock but sometime a call out before will get you on the pre-net warm up chat and the net finishes when it finishes, which is normally after 22:30 Hrs.
In reverse alphabetical order by location, here is my list of station that called in and were heard and or worked by the net
Now for the 'Oscar' style list of thank yous. Thank you to all who called Thank you to the listening station who know who they are Thank you to all who came up to Radio Corner. Thank you to those that sat on there hill for the night. Thank you to those who tried to get in and had no luck, please try another night. Thank you to Toby for the biscuits Thank you for sticking with it and reading this.
Here are a couple of topics discussed during the net, the Northern Lights, bread pudding, motorised tripods and testing the Quansheng UV K5 (6 & models.
That about brings this episode to an end, so if you have spotted a mistake or I have left you off the list, let me know so I can correct it.
Now for another public service announcement. Don't forget to look both ways when crossing the road and never face the wind when caught short!

On your marks
Get set

Go Go Go!
Welcome to another fast paced episode of 'Ray Reviews' the South Coast/Monday Night PMR net held on April 1st 2024.
Leaving the start line, we head down to analogue channel 14, using the NFM setting, so not to splatter over the adjacent channels and disable the CTCSS, DCS and any kind of privacy codes so the net can be enjoyed by all.
After going round the first right hander, the net starts somewhere between 8 and 8:30 local UK time but if you listen in before that you may find some on having a pre net chat.
From the right hander, we have a short straight and then a tight left into where in Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex you would have found the 2 Ray's.
After the tight left there is a long sweeping right, bring you to my working conditions.
PIT STOP PIT STOP
As we pull into the pits from the pit straight, we find that our pit crew have forgot to charge the battery and load the vehicle up with the Female SMA to SO 239 adaptor.
After a longer than necessary pit stop it's back out and on with the race.
From the pit exit we do left where the weather may be an issue later in the race, but for the start is was cool, dry and cloudy
Now it's down the straight, through the chicane and into the banked right hander to the start and finish straight and the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net

Hello and welcome
Here is another episode of Ray Reviews the South Coast/Monday Night PMR Net
or
"Fun fact, on this date in 1997, Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 4 Beta"
The PMR net is held on PMR analogue channel 14, using no CTCSS, DCS tones or voice scramblers. This makes the net open to all, no matter what PMR radio you have or your level of radio knowledge.
The net is scheduled to start at about 8 o'clock or 20:00 Hrs if you prefer, but sometimes a call out before then can get you invited to join the pre-net waffle.
My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex or Maidenhead location square JO-01-BB. The set up was the CRT Space U and the Dean made 'French' antenna on a pole.
Here is a sample of the weather on the night.
