Good evening, All

I am thinking of doing a permanent install of cb/11m in my daily driver, given that we getting closer to the peak of Cycle 25.

I already have a Sirio 4000 for static-mobile use and it has yielded me great results over the years.

I am looking for an antenna that is shorter and less obvious when driving around. The antenna I am thinking of is the Sirio ML145. Does anyone have any experience of this antenna  and its performance?

73s John.

It seems to get good reviews there John and unlike its similarity to the old Avanti Moonraker sports waterproof features and a rubber foot to prevent bodywork scratching when used with the mag-mount base. (Although there'll always be stories of how the rubber foot prevents the magnet being effective.)

Haven't used one myself but then it wouldn't stick to the plastic bodywork of my mobility scooter! Wink Very Happy

Always good to have a mobile setup to have a shifty on the bands whilst out and about with the added bonus of shooting up the nearest clear peak for a spot of DX. Sirio ML145 1f44d

I wish you well with it all.

73,
Victor

I have one and like it.
One thing if you get one check the coax connection under the rubber boot.
They are known to have a poor job done there but otherwise a good mount.
I use mine with the 4000 on 10 and 11m but it looks messy lol but works well.
I have trimmed it for 10 and i have a wire joint to add the extra bit for 11 takes seconds to put on and tighten the screw.

It'll be about 2 S points down on your Sirio 4000.

If you're doing a permanent install I'd just drill a hole in the roof and use the Sirio SO239 body mount. Job done properly and you can put a shorter Sirio on or your 4000.

Hello All,

Thanks for the input, Chaps.👍 I will probably give it a whirl. It will be nice to have the radio on, when tootling about.

I am thinking of installing the Optima, Victor. The Stalker is a bit too precious to me, to leave it in the car.👍

73s John.

I don't blame you mate, you'd be gutted if the Stalker got taken!

You'll have to let us all know how you get on with the ML145 John mate, might come in handy for others contemplating one or reading these postings. Sirio ML145 1f44d

I would be well gutted if it was stolen.

I will do, Victor. Just searching around for the best price on one.

A good aspect of a simple car like the C1 is there are lots of places to install a compact radio like the Optima.

I have installed the CRT Space U under the heater controls and plugged it into the 12v output. There is plenty of room around it, for any heat to dissipate.👍

I will wire up the Optima directly to the battery.

73s John.

Not on a CB or Kenwood, Icom or Yaesu S-meter from S0-S9. They all calibrate to 3dB per S point.

I've done side by side comparisons with a Sirio Performer 5000 which is about the same length as a Sirio 4000 and the Sirio 3000 which is about 30cm longer, about midway between the difference between the 5000 and the ML145 and it was just over a S point difference so something S5 on the 5000 would be just below mid-point S3 to S5 on the CB I was using.

Is exact the same as the PNI ML 160 (photo below but note there is also a dipole right under) i also show some good reviews, but got the PNI because was to my market ... i was using for about one year at a mast up the roof, with No ground installed ( i know should radiate wrong & may also radiate the coax cable) & rg58 cable ... SWR was always just little above red (3,2 at EU Band) no matter what length tried, did not managed to lower SWR with no ground, so it Needs good ground ... at UK band SWR will go 2.8 as it was if play with lenght, so it seems better there

Can not tell how good was because i do Not have local stations, however from time to time will do some DX to France, UK & few repeaters with just 4-8W ... first video
https://charlietangodxgroup.forumotion.com/t5158-my-first-proper-contact-corfu-with-14pat411-france
But of course as you know better for DX if conditions are good will DX even with a small wire

Sirio ML145 JA0kvHc

i would say get it, is an ok mobile antenna
