Been really busy not with radio things today, but managed a few contacts in between including a few into Italy, Ireland, Germany, Croatia, my first into Bulgaria and a few into Hungary, one of which I was really surprised to learn was only 9 years old - HA5YD, operating very professionally in three languages! Very well done Dora!

20/07/21 10m SSB , the band/mode opened up to South America around 19:50 utc with a few strong Brazilian stations and a lone Argentinian for about 45mins , first time I've worked LU in July ( April 2016 + ) on 10m SSB with most other contacts being in the months of Sept/Oct prior to this year.

Very well done to pull those ones in. I didn't hear them my way unfortunately. I got one into Canary Islands this evening, so pulling in from right direction, but quite a bit short on reaching South America.

Manuel was 59+10dB here last night (if that was who you worked) and always puts out a great signal , I only heard one Brazilian last night quite low but he was in the NW region I think rather than the common South Atlantic coastal PY2's, the sporadic E EPI maps show a possible first hop out in that direction once again tonight from about 16:00utc onwards so there maybe some EA8,CT3 and D4 about testing for the weekends IOTA which could also bring in a path to SA . Good luck. EDIT Actually it was two Brazilians I heard last night , PY2BRP was cqing on 490 for a time only for EA5H to rock up and start cqing on the same frequency !

Yes, was Manuel 57 in to me and very clear. At the time he was the only station I could hear on all of 10 & 11.
Without diverting too much from this being a contact thread, would you mind me asking what antenna you are currently using for 10m?
I planned to put a temporary wire up outside and sit in the garden for the weekend as puppy training. But looks like thunderstorms will stop that, so will try to work a bit of the IOTA comp from the loft antenna. Involves a lot of running up and down the stairs between radio and dog, but will keep me fit. Good luck to you too, look forward to hopefully reading that you manage some very distant 10m contacts over coming days.

Antenna is a 3 element monoband LFA ( like a Yagi but rather than a dipole its a full wave flat rectangle loop for the driven element ) . Turning radius is 3m and just about fits in my small garden, its on a push up telescopic aluminium mast so when not in use its down to about 3m in height and pretty much out of sight but to be honest because of guying restrictions it only ever goes up to a maximum of 6.6m ( 5/8th wave) above ground level anyway.

Thank you for sharing your antenna details. I have looked it up and it looks a very good design. I can see how it helps you pull in signals. I am interested in the closed loop driven element / pulling in less man-made noise aspect. I wouldn't have room for a beam in my loft though, at least not one I could turn.
Listened out for distant South American stations this evening, in between flicking through 11m, but it's all been really short skip to me on both bands. I finally had my first home country England contact via some very short skip of just 240 miles.

10m was wide (ish) open to the States plenty on and I spent most of the evening ( read all of it ) trying for Tennessee for a new State for this year and failed big time !!! Finished the evening with US Virgin Islands for a new one on TEN for me so not a complete loss.

Well done on working Iceland! Never heard any IOTA stations either, at least no signals I could determine, no more than back-of-the-box murmurings. Spain is coming through strong on 11 at the moment, so there's a bit of skip out there.. going to have a little listen.

Managed three with Spain. Skip is still alive to the south now with Portugal coming in as well, but I need to call it a night as I have a very early start in morning. Happy to finally have gotten something on 10 this weekend though

Very well done, that's an awesome contact for 10m. During the day it was full of Germany and Austria, and I made a coupe to them, but my hat goes off to you for your contact.

Thanks , I'm missing a fair few from that area compared to 2020 ( so far this year ) HP,ZF,CO,HC so every one is a bonus before conditions start to drop out with the change from sporadic E to F2 propagation. Although SC25 may yet make the missing ones easy meat in the last quater of the year if it finally gets going.

Great opening yesterday on 10. The MUF peaked at above 30MHz for a while in the afternoon. I wish that I had more time to play radio during the day, but although was very busy I did manage a few contacts including three into Russia.
Brazil, although supposed to be a fairly easy South American DX, is still alluding me though. I did try calling a station for a while, but couldn't get through his pileup. As my previous post, I've managed Chile which is the same direction and a little further distance, so hopefully it is just a matter of time and good conditions aligning with me being on the radio.

A good weekend for propagation on 10m SSB for the UK with Africa being the main focus , Saturday saw ZS, FR ,9X,7Q and 9J ( the only one I Worked ) all on the band around the same time whilst Sunday again had ZS , with 3DA and TT ( didn't work ZS but got the other two ). Waiting to see if I made the Russians expeditions log in 3DA land but as I worked a local from there a half hour later alls good whatever , Chad was #107 for the year on 10m SSB .

A quick half an hour on the radio this evening, little to nothing on 27mhz so up to ten and stumbled across J5T from Bubaque Island, IOTA AF - 020, Guinea Bissau, easy to work as he was working split. An excellent 599 signal, the strange thing having checked 28.074 to see if the band was open for FT8 noise, there was little activity !

Very true mate, last time i really bothered with CQWW not really being a phone op was in Morocco with some friends from HB land using the call CN1C. We had an excellent time, killed two amplifiers on the first day, so barefoot for the rest of the contest, stayed over for 10 days and got to visit plenty of friends i have not seen for years including a nice visit to Jims CN2R (SK-RIP mate) station.
My best contact in the week before the contest was on ten metres CW with GM3OXX (SK)..............My QRP hero !

23/10/2021 Not so much about contacts made as I couldn't DX my way out of a paper bag on this Saturday morning having failed on both Kazakhstan and Indonesia but on 10m SSB Hong Kong,Philippines, Australia,Kyrgystan and Uzbekistan were all known to have been worked from the UK . How much sporadic E played in the opening which also had many strong Russian stations who knows but the Ionograms did show blanket E coverage so maybe a first hop out was by E's ? Propagation on the up as we all know and dont forget its CQWW next weekend.
